3 minute read
Many believe that they truly love, but in reality theirs is not the true love that joins two souls until death and beyond it. Sometimes the love between two friends is much closer to true love than possessive love.
Yes... for most of us, love is possessive, as though it belonged to us rather than being given by God. We should thank Heaven that we have the honour of living something otherwise possible only in the divine kingdom. Of all that exists upon Earth, love is the one bond that confirms: 'I made you gods... and you worship idols...'
Love is the divine inheritance left by God to us mortals so that we may awaken and one day remember the origins and meaning of our existence.
When you truly love, nothing else has value beside what you feel.
Anything else is an egotistical love, calculated in terms of why, how and how much. When you truly love, you are happy because of what you feel, and this is the reward. Nothing else matters, and you expect nothing in return. On the contrary, you thank Heaven and the person who awakened love within you, for eternity. You no longer exist; only the experience exists. It alone will govern your inner life. The extent of what you can endure in relation to whom or what you live will bring you happiness or suffering.
Jealousy belongs to selfishness, to the animal within and to unevolved thought, because it is ancestral. Being human, it is natural to suffer when love is not returned, when someone who perhaps deserves it less receives more attention and happiness than we do. Yet if the person you love is happy, you can do nothing but rejoice in their happiness. In the end, selfishness will make its effect felt because that happiness is momentary, not enduring, and then you will have to suffer beside the person you love. It is difficult in our lives to find someone who truly respects true love. Entertainment, possessive love, playing at love and the chase for intense sensations may temporarily produce passion, but the more time you lose instead of making the soul happy, the emptier you will feel.
Your thinking and your ego will be content for as long as you sleep. When your soul awakens, as usually happens increasingly with age, your suffering will be greater. The earlier you awaken, the more you can benefit from the energies of youth, and your thinking can evolve and surrender itself to the soul.
We fear true love because it lays the soul bare. It leaves us defenceless before our own thinking and, especially, before the thinking of the person we love. Sooner or later, the selfish thinking of the loved person will make our soul suffer. If in those moments you do not see the divine within living love, or if you have never known true love, you will believe that love is your greatest enemy, when the enemy is in fact your own thinking. Yet giving yourself to true love is the only way to love, the only way to live the love that makes the soul happy. Otherwise, only suffering will be part of your life.
The irony is that we all dream of meeting true love, but when most of us encounter it, we act to destroy the experience of love.
