2 minute read
To be aware is not the same as to have a conscience. It is a state of the soul in which it is conscious of its own existence and does not simply allow destiny to carry it at random. You have guessed that the love of which I keep speaking is connected with this state.
It is reflected even when two people love one another and choose to dedicate themselves to the love they feel regardless of obstacles. They do not place something else first because they are not moving towards materialism, but towards what we might call a spiritual life, although the term is imperfect because religious belief is not necessarily involved in this equation.
There are also people who have not yet clearly decided whether their path in life is entirely dedicated to materialism. They continually feel an emptiness in the soul, and this makes them question their choices.
These people can still be saved, because they have not completely closed the gates of the heart. They have perceived a glimmer of what makes the soul happy. Sooner or later, they will have to choose the soul's path; otherwise they will have neither peace nor fulfilment in life, no matter how much they accomplish materially or professionally.
To be aware means to be awake and to choose knowingly. One example of being a 'sleepwalker' is to make a choice and later realise that it did not seem to belong to you, that you chose something you did not desire with your whole soul but selected after making a calculation. Or you suffer greatly after a choice that should have brought peace, but instead brought precisely what you did not want.
Either you will recognise the mistake quickly, or you will continue the struggle until the soul itself takes its share. For: 'Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.'
Being conscious of your choices does not mean you will not suffer. But you are upon the Path. You are conscious of the soul's existence and of God, and this will be reflected in your existence and actions.
